Here we are with my final Telluride post. I’m going to have to find some local fun to keep this blog going over the next month! River and I took a little drive out of town to the micro-town of Ophir. I was quite excited to find some trashed out buildings to play in. The...

Randomless lives in Telluride
Telluride is full of all sorts of marvlicious randomness. And you know how I love to take photos of randomness! About a block from the gondola in town is a house, with a fence made of skis, and a pile of random junk lying in the yard. And amongst the random junk is a mid...
Bear Creek Trail
After my wedding on Wednesday I got out for a quick hike from the town of Telluride. The weather was unbelievably schizophrenic, and it would change from sun to rain about every 3 minutes. I walked with only my 45mm Tilt Shift Lens, always looking to tie together compositional elements. Steve-Z.com = perspective misalignment!
Vintage Used Car Lot
On the drive to Telluride, we passed through the town of Delta, Colorado. Just another ambiguous small town on the Western Slope, there are only three reasons for a passer-though to stop: Food, gas, or possibly some crystal meth. When I saw this lot full of rusted out vintage cars, I realized that there is...
Ouray
If you drive to Ouray, there is an overlook over town, where you can take the same photo that 8 million other people have already taken. 7,999,999 of them do not have the focal plane aligned with Main Street, however.
Chapter 5
Driving along the barren interstate at sunset, we were struck by the beauty of the rolling crop fields in central Washington. The sun was setting, and we were reflecting on a spontaneous journey gone by. It seemed like the perfect setting to take some new Facebook profile pics! That’s all for Chapter 5. You can...
Deep in the Washington Forest
We camped deep in the forest near Rainier. It was wicked magical.
Great Sand Dunes – Sunset Day 1
A really cool thing about the Great Sand Dunes National Park, is that you are allowed to camp out on the dunes! It was really a cool experience to hike out there with just a sleeping bag and just sleep under the stars! It also is a great way to be where you need to...
There aren’t enough abandoned buildings in Boulder
OK, I really need to post some shots from my trip down to the Great Sand Dunes that now seems like about forever ago! First picture of me taken by Melissa Welsh. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Boulder County needs more burned down derelict buildings so that I can have more...
Summer Riding Season Is Here!
I did my first two rides in the high country this weekend! The trails are running sweet in Ned, with the exception of the higher stuff which is still clogged with snow. I got turned around on School Bus by snow drifts. But I did ride the new Re-Root section of Root Canal. It’s pretty...
Pearl Street Mall
And today is a gorgeous sunny day in Boulder. A great day to be outside . . . unfortunately I’ve got a SUPER busy week. I did step out for lunch and take a quick shot outside the office.
Angled Focal Plane
I finally found a breakfast burrito downtown that doesn’t have eggs in it. It’s at Two Spoons, which also has cool tables. And I got a free cup of hot chocolate. It took me a while to get the angle of the focus plane just right. I like the line of focus from one corner...
It’s still snowing
The snow was supposed to have let up by now, but it is still snowing in Boulder. We got a ton of moisture, but the temps were warm enough that a lot of the snow has melted as it has come down. Some of the last leaves of fall are still hanging on.
Hangin’ on Io’s Porch
I spend some time the last two weekends up in Estes Park. My friend Io lives there so I stopped by. She has a porch. And a dog named Amber. I have an 85mm Perspective Control Lens. And a photography problem. This is what happened.
The Aspen verses The Pine
I love aspen groves. We have a lot of pine forests in the Front Range, and they just aren’t as pretty. If an aspen tree and a pine tree got in a fight, the pine tree would probably win. Aspen trees are lovers, not fighters. In a Miss Perennial Woody Plant competition, the aspen would...
Peace and Love on the Rocks, 40th Anniversary of Woodstock Photos
I was invited by my friends from Something Underground to hang out backstage and shoot some photos for Peace and Love on the Rocks. There were a bajilliion musicians there rotating in and out, covering favorite songs from the famous music festival of old. It like rocked and stuff. You can see more photos from...
Deciphering Chaos With Perspective Control Lenses
So, as you probably can see, I like taking nature photos when I’m wandering around in the local woods around Boulder. It can be challenging to come up with creative ways to take new photos every time, when the surroundings appear to be the same. In the foothills of Boulder, we really don’t have too...
