So it begins…

Here I am on the ski lift at Copper Mountain for Opening Day 2009! I think this is my first Colorado opening day, as I’m not usually a fan of battling the crowds on the Ribbon of Death! But, my friend Doug from Elevation Outdoors scored us some tickets, so I thought it would be...

It’s hard to believe this was 5 days ago

We are experiencing the classically fickle Colorado weather right now.  It’s 66 degrees out and it feels blazing hot in jeans in the sun.  It made me realize that I took a picture out front of my office last week that I was going to post.  We had this much snow and it’s gone gone...

It’s still snowing

The snow was supposed to have let up by now, but it is still snowing in Boulder.  We got a ton of moisture, but the temps were warm enough that a lot of the snow has melted as it has come down.  Some of the last leaves of fall are still hanging on.

Photographic Evidence That It Snowed Last Week

I took this photo yesterday while driving Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park.  This huge drift is at about 11,ooo feet.

Durango MTB Getaway

Last weekend Ryan and I headed out on a mountain biking road trip. It had been WAY too long since my last one, I think it was the 2006 Colorado Springs trip. We decided to check out Durango, since neither of us really knows anyone who has ridden in the area. Durango was at one...

Photo Workshop in Evergreen this week

We woke up on Monday to some snow in Colorado . . . AGAIN!  Chad and I headed up to Evergreen for the Shoot With Beckstead workshop.  Four days of classroom and on location shooting with models.  I think I’ll post the images from the workshop on The Light Side, since they are looking REALLY...

Four Days of Epic Spring Powder at Vail and Beaver Creek

I’m always following the weather during the winter, tracking the big storms that yield glorious dumps of fluffy powder. I wasn’t able to get away too much this year, just too much business stuff combined with a pretty dry winter.  Well the storms finally showed up in late March and early April, and I was...

I took a Colorado Stay-cation

I love the sunrises in Boulder. Being the night person that I am, I rarely get to see it. A powder day is one of the few things that get me up early enough.  These pics were taken last Thurs, on my way out of town for a mini vacation. I hadn’t made very good...

Lots of Pics from Arapahoe Basin Powder Day

I finally was able to break away from the photo biz for a midweek powder day at Abasin. I wanted to make sure and punish myself for my lack of exercise routine this winter so I decided to telemark ski.  It was my first real tele day since February 1, 2007.  Yes, I’m already sore....

A Christmas Eve SnowCat Adventure at Keystone

I did it.  I broke the seal.  I finally got my ass out of the office and up into the mountains for some snow sliding!  I almost didn’t think I was going to make it before the new year.  But I did.  It was a Christmas Eve solo mission.  With complete confidence in my abilities,...

Winter to Summer in Four Hours

I flew from Denver to Ft. Lauderdale last Thursay for a destination wedding in Palm Beach.  It was nice and snowy when I left so that I could feel really good about leaving town.  We took the bus so that we didn’t have to drive in the snow.  So did everyone else, and it was...

Boulder Colorado Mountain Landscapes: Snow in August!

I was heading down to that fashion show and there was a break in the weather. The storm that brought three and a half inches of rain to Boulder also left a blanket of snow on the mountain peaks above 10000 feet. If I was ambitious I could have gone up and gotten some powder...

Ingredients to an Epic Ride: Crusty Blood, Raging Rivers, Cold Beer, Frozen Toes, Hot Wings, Virgin Singletrack, and of course Post Holing

I set out for the 10:10 bus last Sunday, an ordinary Sunday, not all that different than the Sunday before. Well slightly different in that I didn’t have a set crew to ride with. I figured I’d see someone I knew. Sure enough Walt was there again with the Waltworks crew, plus Brent from the...

I flew a plane today

I was just sitting in my office today trying to get some work done like a good boy when I got the call. Barnow and I have been talking about going flying for a year now. I considered declining . . . but I figured that I shouldn’t let another year go by. There is...

Boulder Cruiser SkiJam 4 at Abasin!

Wadda Ta my Dillies?!? This past Saturday I awoke with a fairly significant sore throat. Bummer. It’s Ski Jam Day! So what’s a guy to do? Well, if you are me then you suck it up, put on The Cosby Sweater, drown the scratchiness with adult beverages, and keep on shootin’. I was pretty much...

Daily Photos – Black and White Winter Bikes

My business cards that I’ve been giving out lately still have my old website tagline ‘Photos, Bikes, Photos of Bikes’. I’ve had to explain that the cards are old and there really isn’t quite so much about bikes these days here in the depths of the snowiest winter I’ve ever experienced. Here are a couple...

Daily Photo – Death Frosted Over

I’m going to continue to post the photos from the Hunt gallery, but I’ll intersperse them with new photos that I’m working on. I went out in the snow yesterday morning to get some more sunrise shots. I got a cool factory shot that makes Boulder look like a polluted wasteland! I just posted an...
