Steve’s First Day of Work

I hired a new employee. His name is Steve. Steves are cool. I was explaining to him how RadioPoppers PXs work, and that I can shoot off-camera flash way over the camera’s synch speed using High Speed Sync. To show my point, I took this shot of him at 1/8000 of a second. Because I wanted to be sure that his backlit leg hairs were as sharp as possible. I took this shot with 2 Nikon SB-800s at full power, with a Nikon D700, Nikon 24-70 f/2.8, 1/8000, f/4, 640 ISO. How cool is that for a first day of work? Steves are cool.

Coming to Denver – Flash Photography workshop with Neil Van Niekerk

My buddy Neil Van Niekerk is coming to Denver on August 18th to do a workshop on state-of-the-art flash photography techniques. This is an amazing opportunity and space is limited: head over to Planet Neil for more information about the workshop, dates, and how to sign up.

I did a great shoot this past April in New Jersey with Neil. It was set in the Paterson Historical Museum, and the modeling was done by Priscilla.

Strobing the Woods

I brought an SB-26 and some Pocket Wizards on this Sunday’s mountain bike ride. My little Canon G9 has a hot shoe so that you can use big boy flashes on it. I strapped it to a tree to try and get some action shots in the deep dark woods. Unfortunately most of the crew came down before I had a chance to get the exposure and flash power dialed in. Billiam is running a little hot in the above shot. Oh well, I was able to get it dialed in by the time the ladies came by.

Bobby and Stevie’s Excellent Studio Adventure

One of my photographer friends who I share my studio space with is Bobbie Turner. He has a picture of himself attached to the bottom of his email signature that I really didn’t like. Since I’m not one to hold back, I told him that he needed a new one! And actually I needed some of myself as well, so we planned a day in the studio to play with lighting and to each get pictures of ourselves for our own promotion.

Bobbie’s cool, he used to race BMX back in the 80′s like me hee-ha!!! As a result, he has hit his head many times just like me.

We couldn’t be serious for too long in there. We were coming up with wild lighting scenarios and busting out some moves. Listing to Kid Rock does these things to you, honest. Look for the sequel to this post with my inverted aerial maneuvers coming soon!
