Last Saturday was a Big Night! Rob and Sarah were back in town from Bend, Oregon for Rob’s birthday, Stout Month, and the Sideburn and Mullet to win some pork chops contest at the Mountain Sun. Is that a run on sentence, or just a case of too much action for one sentence?

Things started normally enough when everyone started congregating in late afternoon. But as the hours wore on, it was easy to see that some unconventional grooming was descending on the pub.

As if the mullets, sideburns, and lots of bad clothing weren’t enough, in comes the The King, carried through the front door on his thrown and preceded by a Bagpiper. I’m not sure what he was the king of, or what the bagpiper was for, but it was quite the spectacle.

Robbie “the Saber-tooth” and Scott “the Wolverine” kicked off a fine round of skinny-man’s arm wrestling. Its wasn’t long before the mullitia got into the act.

We wrapped up the night by setting a tab record for the crew at the Sun. Ouch. At least everybody who was there for the whole night was there to pay. Um. Right. Yeah, you know who you are!

Well highdee ho, long time no blog . . .

I’m in the middle of my first big push of weddings for this year. I shot 5 in 4 weeks plus 2 engagement portrait sessions plus a family portrait session. So I’m going to have lots of updates on my wedding blog, but not so many on this site in the near future.

I’m still working with that new tilt shift lens. Here is a recent shot where I’m using the lens ‘correctly’; aligning the focus plane with the items of interest. This photo would not be possible with a normal lens. The taps are receding away from me, and are all in focus. But the area behind the taps, the bar, is completely out of focus. This shot was taken at f2.8, 1/50, ISO1600.

And at the request of a request in the comments section, this image was taken at Delaney’s down in Denver. I was shooting images at this month’s Integrated Alliances Socialnet event!

It isn’t every day that I learn of a new extreme sport. But when I do you can be certain that I’ll be there to document it. Particularly if it involves combining athleticism with alcoholism. And if you thought I was excited, well Jen Baer went so far as to design a logo to honor the spectacle. Apparently this bootleg event occurs 2 or 3 times a year in Boulder. It also has a national following, and you can check out the official rules and results at www.beermile.com. The basic gist is that you slam a beer, run a quarter mile, and repeat four times. The winning time was 6:45, which is pretty damn fast to just drink 4 beers, let alone run a mile in the midst.

Here are the male and female winners, slobbering their way to victory. They shall remain nameless to protect their indignity.

So a good time was had by all, even by photographers who don’t like to run. Think you can hang? Well get training for next year’s events!
