The ten posts that Google liked best last week

Here are the top 10 most requested posts from the last week. Some of them are recent and make sense, while others … not so much. Maybe I’ll go back and liven up some of the wierd ones that done say anything or have a picture associated with them.

The Steve Z Photography downtown Boulder studio is LIVE

Hi, I am emerging from my coma. The entire state of Colorado has been inundated with winter cold viral attacks from hell. I haven’t been blogging or doing to much else other than setting up the new office and meeting clients there while pretending not to be sick. I feel that canceling things because of sickness is generally not the best way to introduce yourself to potential wedding clients.

I’m sharing a space at 1906 13th St (NE corner of Walnut & 13th) in downtown Boulder, with 2 video/photo guys. The space is called 101. We need to work on the title. We each have our own office, plus a conference room and another common area. The conference room has a couple couches. I wonder who will sleep there first? My bet is on Hot Robbie.

Maybe I’ll post some new pictures soon. Or maybe not. Funny thing, is that it doesn’t seem to affect how many site hits I get. I had an all time record on Monday (823), and the funny thing is I haven’t posted anything in a week. And people aren’t reading about Europe or anything, it’s a lot of random stuff. Hmmmmm, that gives me an idea . . .

Back in Boulder

Hi Everyone,

I’m back in town after 3 weeks in Florida.  This past weekend was spent at the Digital Wedding Forum Convention.  What an amazing experience.  So many good lectures and great people there; there wasn’t any extra time for sleep let alone blogging.  I’m back in the office trying to catch up with a huge backlog or work.  I’ll be posting more here soon!

This blog will be featured this week in The Scoop!

The Scoop is a weekly email Newsletter that is put out by the Rocky Mountain News / Denver Post.  My blog will be the featured Colorado Blog this week!  With an audience of 160,000 people, I’m interested to see if I get a spike in hits after it comes out.  In addition to a link to this site, there will be a short Q and A section.  If you want to sign up to see it, you can SIGNUP HERE, and check any of the categories.  Thanks, Io, for submitting my blog to them!

Video Link: The boy who sees without eyes

This video is nothing short of amazing. This kid literally has no eyeballs, yet he can rollerblade, play video games and foosball, and identify objects by echo location like a dolphin!

I manifested a broken monitor

I don’t have any new photos to post. My excuse is that my desktop monitor blew up, and I’m sticking to it.

The funny part is that I’ve been wondering about how accurately the color calibration on the ol’ Lacie Electron Blue 22 has been working lately. Pictures on it seem really bright and really green compared to my laptop.  I was at the photo printer yesterday picking up photos, and I inquired about how much color balancing they have to do to my photos. I told them that I was asking because I didn’t quite trust my monitor, and that I sort of wanted a new one. That night, out of nowhere, the thing just blew up. Dead. Moral: Be careful what you wish for.

Thought for the day …

“If you are ultimately going to do something important that will make a real difference…do it now”

This site is best viewed with Firefox, not Internet Explorer

It has come to my attention that when you click on the “view more” at the bottom of a post, the full page article does not view properly in Internet Explorer.  This is quite unfortunate.  I use Firefox so I never noticed the problem.  I’m assuming Safari views it OK?  I’ll try to get the problem resolved but I’m not sure how I’m going to do it, other than to switch to a new Wordpress Template.

I’m back

Hi out there in cyberworld!  I’ve been gone for a while, but I’m back without a vengeance.  Did you know that’s how you spell vengeance?  I didn’t, but fortunately Firefox has a built in spell-checker.  Anyway, my dad was in town last week, plus I had an unexpected turn of events in my life over the last week and a half.  That kept me from shooting and posting too much, but look for some new stuff coming this week.

News: Steve Z 2.0

Pretty big changes are going on here in Steve Z PhotoWorld. As you may notice, the ol’ blog has a new look for the first time ever. This is part of an overall makeover that will include my portfolio website, as well as my soon-to-be-launched wedding photography website. I will be updating www.stevezphoto.com to be more photography business oriented, as well as giving it a much-needed gallery update. So over the next couple weeks there should be lots of new pictures to check out.

Off to Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City

I’m outta here to help my friends Davidson and Justin of Ecologic Designs bring a trade show booth to Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake. Don’t you for a second think that it will be all work; I’m bringing the 29er for some Wasatch mountain bike action with the old crew. Hopefully I’ll get some shooting in. With any luck and a Wifi connection I will be posting some road reports.

Video Link: Inventor BURNS salt water!

This is a pretty cool story and invention. John Kanzius is working on a machine that produces radio waves in hopes of curing cancer, which is is afflicted with. He accidentally discovered that the machine will burn salt water!

Salt Water into Fuel

Now keep in mind that the news media is a bunch of sensationalist crap. They of course neglect to mention that the machine used to create the radio waves consumes more energy than is released from the salt water. Apparently they are currently at 76% of the theoretical maximum as discussed HERE. Nevertheless, it is a very cool invention and hopefully it will inspire others to develop power production methods that don’t rely on fossil fuels.

Video Link - Modest Mouse Stop-Motion Photography Fan Video

Wow, this video was made by piecing together thousands of individual photos.

Modest Mouse Missed the Boat video contest

“Myself and a couple have friends have entered the above into the Modest Mouse video competition. Using green screen footage provided by the band we cut a simple music video. We then degraded the images and printed out each frame sequentially. (all 4133 of them) We then nailed each “shot” of 50-100 posters to various structures and posts. Then using a digital SLR camera with a long exposure we frame by frame shot each poster. Oh, and theres a little video projection (again, frame by frame on the SLR) just to mix it up. There is no compositing, no shortcuts, just lots of blood, sweat and tears, and a huge Kinkos bill!”…. Max

Daily Photo - The Garter Belt

The garter belt tradition is apparently not one of the most beloved wedding traditions by all brides. But nonetheless, I wanted to to a sexy but tasteful photo of one.

Daily Photo - I rode a new trail on my new 29er

Mountain Biker Ride in wildflowers in Boulder County ColoradoI rode a new trail in Boulder County on Friday. And it was 100% singletrack, how exciting! I got the hookup on a small local trail network that is off the beaten path. It was really cool, very twisty and technical. It was do-able on a singlespeed, but it sure as hell wasn’t easy. We took a lot of breaks, and the loop took us two hours. There are lots of other trails that spur off of the loop that we did, who knows how much riding there is total.

Which brings me to another story. I bought a 29er. It is an On-One Inbred steel hardtail, with sliding vertical dropouts so that it can be either geared or single. I’ve been wanting to write a whole blog entry comparing it to my Curtlo 26″ singlespeed, but the photography work has been keeping me occupied full time. My first impressions are that it is really really fun to ride! It really does roll over bumps and ruts better and feels more stable at speed. However I definitely feel the weight penalty when I’m climbing steep stuff. This bike weighs 26.5 and my Curtlo is 23.5; and most of the weight is in the wheels. I’ve done 3 rides on the Inbred so far. Now I’m going to go back to the 26er next ride and see how it feels to go back. More to report later.
