The Art of the Camel Toe

I got hooked up with some luxury accommodations in Telluride at the Camel’s Garden Hotel by virtue of River’s friendship with the owner. A fine art aficionado, Michael has some cool art in and around the premises. The post started with my fixation on the hotel lamp.  The below shot I call, The Flux Capacitor....

Bear Creek Trail

After my wedding on Wednesday I got out for a quick hike from the town of Telluride. The weather was unbelievably schizophrenic, and it would change from sun to rain about every 3 minutes. I walked with only my 45mm Tilt Shift Lens, always looking to tie together compositional elements. Steve-Z.com = perspective misalignment!

Vintage Used Car Lot

On the drive to Telluride, we passed through the town of Delta, Colorado. Just another ambiguous small town on the Western Slope, there are only three reasons for a passer-though to stop: Food, gas, or possibly some crystal meth. When I saw this lot full of rusted out vintage cars, I realized that there is...

Mt. Rainier

After leaving Seattle and the coast, we headed up to Mt. Rainier National Park.  George needed to get out of the car and stretch his legs at a rest stop, and agreed to pose for a quick photo.

Fire on the Mountain

When camping, I’m captivated by the primal power of fire. I can spend hours collecting, building, tending, arranging, contemplating, and generally zoning out in peaceful zen.

The Matheson House Bed and Breakfast

Somewhere along the way through Washington State, Mel and I found ourselves at the little town of Northport. We stayed at a little Grandma and Grandpa bed and breakfast, which I believe was called the Matheson House, although I can’t seem to find any trace of it on the internet. We received the warmest hospitality,...

Seattle Tilt Shift Madness

We were in Seattle for a brief visit last weekend. I decided to climb to the top of a parking garage, hoping to get a view of Pike’s Market and the waterfront. Well, the building wasn’t quite high enough! So I took this shot of 1st Avenue. One of the cool effects of the tilt...

There aren’t enough abandoned buildings in Boulder

OK, I really need to post some shots from my trip down to the Great Sand Dunes that now seems like about forever ago! First picture of me taken by Melissa Welsh. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Boulder County needs more burned down derelict buildings so that I can have more...

Junk At Speed

Prior to getting into photography, I didn’t really appreciate junk. But now, oh now; things are different. There is nothing that I love more than the burned out, rusted in, toppled over, crumbling down, peeling onto, smashed under feel good scratch and sniff goodness of a desolate pile of junk. I wish Westerners weren’t so...

Road Trip!

I set out on a good old fashioned road trip last week. It was part of a staycation that was the result of a visit from an out of the country friend. We headed down to the Great Sand Dunes in southern Colorado. The dunes are one of those places that I’ve been meaning to...

Tomato Face

Not much time for the Dark Side these days as I’m too busy getting ready for the studio opening and the busy season.  My mom joined a tomato forum. She needs an avatar. Here it is.

Happy Cinco de Mustache!

So Ron made me grow a mustache for Saturday’s Cinco de Mustache party at his house.  Even though the party is Saturday, we had to shave them for tonight’s Cinco de Mustache party at the Catacombs.  Here’s Ron’s edition: Not to be outdone, I pulled out all the stops and cranked the Lightroom settings for...

Lake Steve Z Photography

We have had so much rain the last 3 days that there is a giant lake in the parking lot of my office. This doesn’t happen to much in the desert of Colorado!

Bicycle Abstract

I’m setting a goal to be less of a crazy photographer workahaulic this year and get out more on the bike. I rode both Saturday and Sunday this weekend to try and clear my head. I brought my pocket camera along to challenge myself to come up with a creative photo while riding around the...

Spring Snow

I walked out of my office last night, and was really struck by the lighting and the snow in the trees.  It was gorgeously still and beautiful.

America’s Next Top Snowman

Happy Spring! On the 2010 vernal equinox we witnessed the debut of a new playa on the international male snowpermodel circuit. Sir Frostilicious has the crystalline structure to dominate the cuthroat snowway fashion scene for the foreseeable future. His bone chilling trademark look is known in Milan as “Icy Steel”. I am so fortunate to...

Feelin’ Lucky?

On the first day out in Vegas our ragtag band of photographers organized a little model shoot out in the desert.  The desert skies were awesome. We stopped at the Railroad Pass Casino for dollar beers, hot dogs, and shrimp cocktails.
