For the third class of body form photography, we shot with a single strobe with a soft box. We warmed up with some long exposure shots using just the modeling light.

Then on to some strobe shots in the black room.

But then we moved to the white room. I enjoyed this high key setup as a change of pace from the previous shoots.

And to mix things up a little bit I pushed the shadow areas of this last photo to bring in some blacks.

This is the second installment of photos from my nude body study of light and shadows. This week we used 1 or two constant light sources. There were no modifiers used to soften the light, thereby producing very dramatic light and shadows.

Last Friday there was a cool little fashion show at the prAna store on Pearl Street in Boulder. There was free beer from Oskar Blues, appetizers from The Rio Grande mexian restaurant, vodka from Leopold Brothers mixed with Izze, styling by Urban Pearl Salon, and tunes by DJ Red Lion. There were lots of pretty people as well, so I snapped some photos. You can the full set on my Facebook page HERE and have a big ol’ tagging party. :>)

I signed up for a 4 session Body Form Photography class. I met the instructor, Rick Cummings, when I did the Latin Teen fashion shoot a couple months ago. Rick has a cool studio location only a couple of blocks from mine in Downtown Boulder. He is very involved with teaching classes and opening his space to photographers in the community. So I decided to sign up for Body Form 1 to study light and form in it’s purest form, on the human body. The first class was all lit solely with natural light coming in through the overhead skylight. I did not perform any photoshop, other than adjusting contrast and some cropping. If you are interested in taking a class you can check out the Body Form Workshop Website.

OK, so the next time you see a post of just cute and cuddly kittens, you should be prepared that I’m prepping to unleash some serious weirdness.

Over the years, I’ve found a lot of useful stuff sitting outside the dumpsters at my condo complex. People leave their stuff out there, that they don’t want, don’t really want to throw in the garbage, but are too lazy to take to the Salvation Army themselves. I’ve found bikes, bike parts, skis, furniture, costumes, kitchenware, my current ski jacket, and now, extra large baby dolls in high chairs. While most people would pass these guys by, I instantly realized that there was a photo shoot to be had. A week later, a definitive reason arose. I got my new RadioPopper PX flash transmitters, and they weren’t working properly at all. So I needed to do another test shoot. Voila. The perfect subjects who would not get tired while I tinkered around with camera knobs and buttons.

I wanted a place where I could practice that was walking distance from my house. Boom. Train tracks. Yup. The perfect place to complete the awkward strangeness of this whole project.

I wasn’t really planning for the train to come by. But, it did. Next time I’ll try the rear curtain sync. OK, that is enough nerdiness for today. If you want to check out what I do with real children, I’m getting to post shots from my first shoot with the RadioPoppers that didn’t go so well. Lucky they worked OK part of the time. :>)

I would have add some funny quotes like on THIS WEBSITE, but I’m not that funny.

Last Saturday was a Big Night! Rob and Sarah were back in town from Bend, Oregon for Rob’s birthday, Stout Month, and the Sideburn and Mullet to win some pork chops contest at the Mountain Sun. Is that a run on sentence, or just a case of too much action for one sentence?

Things started normally enough when everyone started congregating in late afternoon. But as the hours wore on, it was easy to see that some unconventional grooming was descending on the pub.

As if the mullets, sideburns, and lots of bad clothing weren’t enough, in comes the The King, carried through the front door on his thrown and preceded by a Bagpiper. I’m not sure what he was the king of, or what the bagpiper was for, but it was quite the spectacle.

Robbie “the Saber-tooth” and Scott “the Wolverine” kicked off a fine round of skinny-man’s arm wrestling. Its wasn’t long before the mullitia got into the act.

We wrapped up the night by setting a tab record for the crew at the Sun. Ouch. At least everybody who was there for the whole night was there to pay. Um. Right. Yeah, you know who you are!

I posted the full gallery of photos on my Facebook page, so click the link in the menu to go to my page.
