Introducing the Boulder Strobist Blogspot!
Last weekend I got together with a small group of local Boulder photographers for a photography practice session. We are starting a local community that shoots using small off-camera flashes, in the style of the Strobist Website. John Heisel got the idea to start a blog about it. Great, that’s ALL I need is another website! Ooof. Well, I’m a sucker for a new website so I’m spending my Saturday night (Sunday morning?) getting it set up and up and running.
Check out the new BOULDER STROBIST BLOGSPOT!
I’m hoping that some of the other guys will chip in and help to post regular content, thereby making the site super cool and fresh with content. If you are a local photographer and are interested in joining the group, please do, the more the merrier!
I’ve posted the photos that I took that night on that site, but you’re going to have to go there to view them and the story . . . :>)
Key West Photos of The Catman Dominique and His Flying Housecats!

I’ve been going through some of my old files and I found some photos from Key West that I never processed. I can’t believe I forgot about Dominique and his flying housecats!

Dominique, also known as The Catman, has been putting on sunset shows at the pier in Key West for a bajillion years. He puts on a pretty funny show, and gets the kids involved in the stunts. He is quite a character!

Warm Sand Between Your Toes

I’m imagining that I’m sitting on the beach, squishing the warm sand in between my toes. Mmmmmmmm.
Boulder Senior Portrait Photographer - Steve Z Photography

Spring has finally sprung here in Boulder and I’m enjoying riding my bike to the studio in shorts for a change. Spring also means that it’s graduation time, and time to shoot some senior portrait photography. Brett just graduated from CU and was looking for just a headshot for his graduation announcements. We met at a Club Entrepreneur meeting on campus back in the winter. I have another senior portrait session on tap for this weekend down in Denver, so I’ll be looking for some new locations to shoot at down in the metro area this week. Enjoy the nice weather and Happy Tuesday!
I flew a plane today

I was just sitting in my office today trying to get some work done like a good boy when I got the call. Barnow and I have been talking about going flying for a year now. I considered declining . . . but I figured that I shouldn’t let another year go by. There is always time for more work!

Jeff had an errand of sorts to run in Longmont so we flew out East. It was kindof overcast over the mountains so it wasn’t the most scenic day ever. That was OK because it gave me the chance to put the camera down and actually FLY THE PLANE!

Yeah, that’s right. Not only did I fly it while in the air, I actually took the thing off the ground! I flew most of the way to Longmont and kinda sorta felt the controls while we landed. I felt the controls to know that with the crosswind we surely would have splattered if the landing really depended on me. I had thoughts of an ‘Airplane’ type situation, what it would be like if I actually had to land the plane myself. Stryker!

Yeah so there is the latest story of a day in the life of Steve Z and why I can’t get around to getting my taxes done. Ah yes it was a great day to not be stuck in the office! Hopefully Jeff will take me up again when the light is good and we can fly over the mountains . . . right?!?

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Mexican Fashion Photography in Boulder

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Welcome to Part 2 of the Crystal Fashion Shoot. Chronicalogically this was Part 1, but never mind that! Crystal needed a photo to run in her local La Junta newspaper in an ad for Cinco de Mayo festivities. I could have taken one good shoot and have been finished . . . but that wouldn’t be my style. I have a way of going overboard when it comes to getting “1 more good shot . . . ” Things are busy busy these days, so I’m not going to jabber on, and I’ll leave you to the gallery.

Model Fashion Photos in Downtown Boulder Colorado with Crystal

I have been on the lookout for interesting locations to shoot in Boulder. I keep whining that Boulder doesn’t have much interesting architecture to shoot in front of. It seems that everywhere you turn there are more brick buildings. I was determined to find somewhere urban and edgy to shoot downtown. In the end, I would up being somewhat foiled by the monotany, and I shot in front of bricks. Again. Oh well, I brought out the Strobist gear to add some hard light to give an edgy feel to some of the shots.

I was able to find a narrow alley that looked somewhat city-like. The whole scene was pretty funny, as we were getting quite a few inquizative looks from Boulderites. People are used to seeing engagement and wedding shoots, but this fashion stuff is pretty radical for 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon in The Republic.
