Valerie and Mike - International Supermodels
Well, OK, maybe not international. Or supermodels. But I feel a catchy title is an important part of blogging, and ‘Valerie and Mike’s Denver Engagement Shoot’ just didn’t have the same kind of ring to it.

Here we have Mike whispering sweet nothings into Val’s ear. I think he said, “When he’s not looking, I’ll smack him over the head, and you grab the camera bag.”

I’m kidding. I’m a kidder. They are really nice people. They even humored me while I planned some silliness.

After this urban shot, we jumped in the limo, which took us to my private helicopter, which took us to my chartered jet, which swept us away to the Northern California coast to catch the sunset on the beach. I needed a beach shot for the portfolio, and here at Steve Z Dot Com, we spare no expense.
Back when I used to ride mountain bikes
I think I’ve said this like a bajillion times, but I’ve been working on the computer a lot. I’ve been doing some cool stuff though. Almost as cool as railing pristine mountain singletrack with fresh legs and new tires. Mmmmm . . . singletrack.
OK, I’m done milking it now
I’ve been quite busy with the major site overhaul. So I’m still milking the shots from the Poise shoot. But this will be it, I promise. I have been keeping up with the shooting lately. It has been all portraits all the time, with an upcoming wedding this Saturday. I think it’s going to be a ripper!

This is Tnisha and TJ, they are engaged for real, not just model-pretend engaged. They are fun to shoot with. I hope to shoot their wedding in 2009. I told them I’ll still give them the hookup on pricing, since I’ll probably be out of their price range by then. ;>) I’m kidding. Sortof. Does that count as manifesting my future?

It makes me laugh that my job is taking pictures of people making out.

. . . and here are some more of Kimberly.

Whoa. Those eyes.

I’ve had a really good time shooting with the 85mm 1.8 lens. I had to go out an buy one. I’m such a gear weenie.
The Beauty Queen

My latest photos to post from the Poise fashion event are of Morgan Weaver. She is currently Miss Jefferson County!
Sarah and Jeremy Engagement Photos

Last week I took Sarah and Jeremy up to Chautauqua at the crack of dawn for their Engagement Shoot. We got some nice photos in the beautiful early morning light. I don’t normally get out that early, but I am always so happy when I do. It always puts me in a good mood for the day, watching the sun rise onto the mountains, with the field lit up to a golden yellow. I didn’t hear from these guys for a week after posting their proofs, and I was a little worried that they were disappointed with the photos. Fortunately nothing could have been farther from the truth, and Sarah wrote, “We love the pictures! You really captured US.”

I’m looking forward to the wedding next week, which will be held up at the Pastures of Plenty in northeast Boulder County. It should be a beautiful location to shoot photography. This 35 acre farm is listed on the Colorado Historic Registry, and grows more than 100 varieties of heirloom flowers and specialty vegetables. The estate’s signature bouquets and bridal arrangements are sold throughout the Boulder-Denver metro area. It should be a great day!
News: Steve Z 2.0
Pretty big changes are going on here in Steve Z PhotoWorld. As you may notice, the ol’ blog has a new look for the first time ever. This is part of an overall makeover that will include my portfolio website, as well as my soon-to-be-launched wedding photography website. I will be updating www.stevezphoto.com to be more photography business oriented, as well as giving it a much-needed gallery update. So over the next couple weeks there should be lots of new pictures to check out.
Daily Photo: Lorenzo Carver, MS, MBA, CPA

When you are taking a business portrait of a man with three titles attached to his name; you know you’d better get the job done correctly and quickly! At first I was planning on doing something a little more traditional than the way this shot turned out. But when I realized that this overpass was near Lorenzo’s house, I knew that I had to give it a shot. I’ve been wanting to do a shot in here for a long time, and the cool thing is that this one came out nothing like what I originally had in my head. Which means that I still have another shot at this location still to come. Tomorrow the blog will return to more shots from the Poise model shoot.

Daily Photo - The Poise Meetup

I got a last minute invite to a fashion model/photographer event down in Denver this week. The group is called Poise, and they organize by using Meetup.com. My first reaction was, “Oh no, yet another online networking thing that I have to create a profile for…” But this event turned out to be really fun and productive, so I think I will be improving my Meetup profile soon.
So the event was very fashion modeling oriented. I had my own agenda though, because I was borrowing an 85mm 1.8 lens that I wanted to test. So while most of the photographers were shooting model-ish poses in a pack under the hot lights; I was working on my portrait shots on a one on one basis. I had a good time, good some good shots, learned some tricks, and made some contacts.
So over the next couple days I will be posting my favorite shots. First up we have the lovely Kimberly. I love this photo.
Photo Slideshow - Fun Photos from 2007
I was asked to make a slideshow that is ‘representative of my work’ for our studio gathering tonight. Here it is: A random collection of images I like.
Daily Photo - Meniskus on Pearl
I went down to check out Meniskus at Centro today. They were playing the afternoon shift on this cool and cloudy day, and the crowd was thin. So Eric took to the street mid-song to arouse interest.
Photo Gallery and Slideshow - Dave and Erin’s Wedding

The weekend before last I shot Dave and Erin Fleck’s wedding; yes the now infamous Winter Park Bachelor Party Crew was in attendance as well. The ceremony and the reception were held at the Colorado Historical Society building above the Colorado History Museum near the capitol building in Denver. It was scorching hot and blazing sun during the ceremony, which may have contributed to it’s whopping 8 minute length. I think everyone was thankful to retreat to the shade with some cold beverages. But soon as the sun went down we were treated to a beautiful view from our fourth floor terrace. The sunset over Colorado’s Continental Divide was divine, and the Denver skylight provided a unique backdrop for some portraiture.

I find the captured moment in the ceremony image below really funny. It is one of those pictures that makes you wonder: What was she thinking? Am I really marrying a man who shaves his legs? Can I really afford to be second to mountain bike trips for the rest of my life? Is Chris Sharma still single, he looked pretty hot in Steve Z’s climbing slideshow … ? Ha! Just kidding, guys, congratulations and I wish you the best. So without further ado, click on the image below to start the slideshow check out some fun pictures.
Photo Gallery and Slideshow - Mountain Biking Kenosha Pass and Monarch Crest

The photo adventure from this past weekend involved riding two sections of the Colorado Trail. Since the Feds are threatening to close the Colorado Trail to mountain biking, I figured this was the year to ride two of the best rides in the world. Let me tell you, they didn’t disappoint. I could have taken a lot more photos, but frankly I was having way too much fun to stop. Check out the slideshow and music by clicking on the slideshow picture below.
