Daily Photo - I rode a new trail on my new 29er
I rode a new trail in Boulder County on Friday. And it was 100% singletrack, how exciting! I got the hookup on a small local trail network that is off the beaten path. It was really cool, very twisty and technical. It was do-able on a singlespeed, but it sure as hell wasn’t easy. We took a lot of breaks, and the loop took us two hours. There are lots of other trails that spur off of the loop that we did, who knows how much riding there is total.
Which brings me to another story. I bought a 29er. It is an On-One Inbred steel hardtail, with sliding vertical dropouts so that it can be either geared or single. I’ve been wanting to write a whole blog entry comparing it to my Curtlo 26″ singlespeed, but the photography work has been keeping me occupied full time. My first impressions are that it is really really fun to ride! It really does roll over bumps and ruts better and feels more stable at speed. However I definitely feel the weight penalty when I’m climbing steep stuff. This bike weighs 26.5 and my Curtlo is 23.5; and most of the weight is in the wheels. I’ve done 3 rides on the Inbred so far. Now I’m going to go back to the 26er next ride and see how it feels to go back. More to report later.
