Thanks for visiting my personal blog! This is the place where I publish photos and ramblings that don't quite fit in with the image of my "professional blog" - AKA "The Light Side". Whatever that means. You can view all my professional wedding, portrait, and business photography portfolios by clicking the 'Portfolio' link above. But if you want to check out Everything Else, read on.

This orange is a metaphor for my head. I have a cold. AGAIN.

The studio has been a little distracting lately. I still have a lot of Geometry photos to post. Until I get that sorted out, here is the image that is currently displayed in the Flash Gallery in Lakewood. The Geometry exhibit will run until March 18, if you want to check it out. Hey, while you’re there, buy my picture!

Messing around with the photo below motivated me to finish off some unfinished business. I’m posting the pictures from our October mountain bike trip down to Colorado Springs. Four months late, I know, it’s a little sad. But on the other hand, I now have some fresh bike related content! It is going to be hard to come by in Colorado for quite a while yet, the snow is just barely melting off the asphalt, let alone revealing shady singletrack. I have included my usual skewed comments on all of the pictures in the gallery, so click on the first thumbnail and read the series.
I’m feeling arty today. I dug this picture out of the ‘unfinished archives of 2006′ bin. Last fall we packed four dudes, bikes, and gear into Hot Robbies Road Stallion, and set out for Fruita. Unfortunately the area was in the middle of a 150 year rainstorm, so we diverted to Colorado Springs for some big rides. It still rained. Surprisingly, the car actually didn’t smell all that bad at the end of the weekend. Wingnut always brings the air freshener along, so we had that going for us. I took a lot of pictures that I haven’t done anything with. Where’s that damn assistant?

I’ve been working on my studio lighting techniques. Here is Tali, one of the victims of my experimentation. You can check out her and Spencer playing live at the downtown Amante on Friday evenings.

It was only a matter of time before I posted a picture of a disco ball. It’s like the macaroni and the cheese. In order to give the ball some color I put a Twister mat in the reflection. Yes, I actually own Twister. No, I’ve never played Naked Twister. Really I think it’s one of those things that sounds better in theory than in practice. Kindof like endurance racing. Think about it, no one wants to hear, “Left hand, green. Hey, stop teabagging me!”

Here’s a product lifestyle shot for Ecologic Designs snowboard bag. My buddy Davidson is getting his website and catalogs up to speed and I’ve been helping him out. It’s a great excuse to go skiing in the name of ‘work’. Alright well I will admit another reason that I haven’t been posting lately is because I ski/snowboarded 3 days last week. :>) On Monday I did a header into a grove of trees on the board and smashed my calf muscle on a tree stump. But the end of the week brought a big storm to the Vail area so I strapped into the ol’ alpine gear and had possibly my best Vail day ever on Thurs. Knee to thigh deep powder, true continuous faceshots, 10-15 foot cliff drops, it was, dare I say, almost UTAH powder! Things all changed on Friday with 80mph winds, closed lifts, and closed interstates, but as they say, you have to be willing to pay to play.
Well I haven’t posted anything since Valentine’s Day. It’s because I’ve been suffering a serious love hangover. Just kidding, I hung out with Scott on Valentine’s Day, and while he’s cute, he’s not my type. The dearth of posting might lead one to believe that I haven’t been shooting. Oh no, my brother’s and sisters! I’ve mostly been working the kinks out of my studio shooting with some brave and pioneering volunteers. There has also been some product photography, which leads me to this photo, of my custom modified ski helmet. Yes, I’m a threat with the hot glue gun. The most common comments from ski lift operators are: Is that a golf helmet? Response: Yeah, it’s a Par 3. Is that a Chia Pet? Response: Yeah, it’s my all season Chia. Did you make that yourself? Response: *(No, they carry these at Wal-Mart now)*

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! Here is a big wet lick on the face from me!

I really like sugar wafers. I like the vanilla ones the best and the chocolate ones the least. The day that I shot this photo, I couldn’t help but eat the whole box in a day. It made me feel kinda sick.

Yes, it is true, I’m getting a little behind on the blog. I’ve been working on projects in the studio this week. We’ll work on catching up here in the next couple days. I still want to get a lot of the photos posted that I took while thinking about the upcoming show Geometry, which opens this Friday, which I am in.
Friday night will be the opening of a month-long group photography show at the Rembrandt Yard, located at 1301 Spruce St. in Boulder, from 5:30-9:30. I also hear there is an exhibit opening at BMOCA as well.
I used to actually play guitars sometimes. Now I mostly take pictures and hang out on the computer editing them. Or take pictures of other people playing them. I should take picture of someone playing ‘Even Hitler Had A Girlfriend’, it would be like old times. But its all good, I probably have a better shot at being a rock star photographer than a rock star guitarist. Nod and smile now, ‘Sure Steve…”
The next photo gallery exhibit showing at Flash is called Geometry. It opens February 16th and I have a picture in it. I shot a whole mess of photos the other week with that theme in mind, so I’ll be posting some of these here in the coming days. I didn’t travel far for my first series, which I shot in my office with CDs that were on my desk! Click on the pics for big’uns.

I don’t know if this photo is really all that special. I just think its pretty. All these nature shots aren’t giving me much to blog about these days, but that is going to change here soon! I’ve been working on other projects, but I haven’t found the time to organize and post on here … yet.
