President Bush Announces New War On Extraterrestrialism (Hunt Photo #3)

Today in Washington, President Bush announced a plan to try and reverse the declining public opinion of the Republican Party. As the death toll continues to climb in Iraq, Bush announced a new War, the fight against Extraterrestrials. Bush was quoted as saying, “I’ve never trusted aliens since ET stole that shopping cart from a hard working corporate supermarket chain.” Democrats called the move a blatant deflection tactic.

OK so I’ve been asked to explain this photo. The explanation is I’m a nutjob. To elaborate, this photo started way back in 2003 when I competed in Boulder Kinetics with a group from LASP in an alien-themed craft, called the Space Invaders. We made these cool alien costumes that we were wearing out to bars and stuff, so I was generally into aliens at the time. Then that summer I went to Burning Man. At Burning Man you are supposed to bring little gifts to randomly give away to people, in a good karma sorta way. So I bought a bunch of glow-in-the-dark aliens and strung them up on necklaces and gave them away. I recently found a box of leftover aliens, and decided that I wanted to take a picture of them glowing in the dark. I never got around to it, but got to thinking about them when I needed to take a Mini photo for the Hunt. I shot the aliens by themselves, cool, but a bit lacking. Then I found this little soldier dude on my desk. I had picked him up off the ground somewhere, sometime last summer, and thought he’d be cool to glue on a cruiser bike or something. I never did do that, but now I found the perfect addition to the image. I used an extreme wide angle lens to try to make the soldier looks a mini as possible in relation to the also-mini aliens. They are all positioned on a piece of glass inside my light tent, thus the reflection. I had to use a flashlight to illuminate the soldier so that he wasn’t pitch black. I made an extention tube out of a piece of paper to focus the light right on him. Voila, the story behind the Mini photo!
