I went to the motocross track with Brian Bean a couple weeks ago. I was just planning on shooting, but sometimes things don’t go as planned and I wound up doing some laps myself. Damn that was exciting, since I haven’t really ridden a motorcycle of any kind for about 7 years. No doubles for me though, I kept it close to the ground and worked on my drifting. Holy crap those things are FAST.
Confessions of a Performance Decreasing Substance Abuser
Words: Paul DesRosiers

Jan Ullrich, Ivan Basso, and now even 2006 Tour de France Winner, Floyd Landis, have been accused of using illegal drugs to increase their performance. But how do you explain Floyd’s astoundingly average performance on stage 16 where he lost over 10 minutes? Only half the story has been told, that is, until now.
On August 5, 2006 long-time cyclist and amateur racer, Luvender Handle, has admitted to taking substances to impede his performance. “Cookies, brownies, ice cream, I’ve done it all to ensure that I race below my potential,” he confesses to an empty press room in his home. In the past, Luv has covered up his usage, but with all of the recent linkage between performance and substances he felt obliged to come forward. “I just couldn’t live with the lies anymore. After 18 years of local racing and consistent mediocre performances, I knew someone would start asking the right questions. Sooner or later, the truth would have to rise to the surface and reveal itself just like a pan of pound cake.” Read more

More info on Lactic Acid and its function in sports
I posted an article a while ago which outlines how the basic scientific understanding of lactic acid has been wrong all along. I was thinking about it this weekend, and I was wondering what does in fact cause the burn if lactic acid is not to blame? It turns out that it is hydrogen ions. Check out this article for more information. http://cytosport.com/science/lacticacid.html

Cruiser Report - Cruisers, Guttersnipes, and Miscreants, Oh My!
guttersnipe - a child who spends most of his time in the streets especially in slum areas
Nevermind that I said I was going to take photos of the last big Scott Carpenter Cruiser Ride. My official excuse is that I forgot to charge my camera after last week. But truth be told, I just wasn’t feeling it. The vibe was a bit lower than it could have been. It was a somewhat solemn occasion after all. Officially there were 829 cruisers in attendence, as if you could really count with all the people coming and going. We’ll just call it the Biggest Ride Ever. But bigger isn’t always better and it is on to other things. The ride is definitely ‘different’ than it used to be. Word on the street is that the City is very pleased that the Cruiser Ride has decided to clean up after itself and not leave a raging mob of rascally rabbits for them to round up. So we’ve got that going for us, which is nice.
We still have some upcoming Cruiser events that typically draw the old school all-grows-up miscreant crowd as opposed to the new-school-fraternity guttersnipe crowd. They are:
Sept 9 - Cruiser Challenge: Fun ride up NCAR hill on cruisers, BBQ, bevvies, etc
Sept 23 - Tour de Fat: Huge New Belgium Cruiser Party in Ft. Collins
Oct 5 - Cruiser Jam: Annual end of year party at the Republic
Winter 07 - Cruz n Burn Ski Jam: Costume ski party at Abasin Beach
Check www.cruiserbikeride.org for all the details.
