At this weeks edition of the cruise I put aside my fears of trashing my camera gear and brought out the 20D to have some photo fun. It was a hot day and there were plenty of short shorts on the ride to celebrate Mo’s last cruise before his move to North Carolina. Unfortunately it was only the guys that interpreted the ‘Carolina On My Mind’ Theme to mean ‘Daisy Dukes.’ Personally I sported my anti-theme costume in protest of the inability of the cruiser email list to decide on themes, but this should hopefully be smoothed out from now on with the advent of a poll to decide these critical decisions democratically. Right Chris?

Illuminated CruiserThe ride started out on a great new route that used uncrowded city streets rather than the bike path which should quiet the nay-sayers who dislike leaving on the bike path every time. We headed straight up the hill to the Buffalo, which is always a favorite location to regroup and circle. After that we rode west on College and down 6th to the bike path and Ebin G Fine. This is the second time that the front of the ride has cruised on by the park without stopping while the middle and the end of the ride did. This should be a lesson, when the group is this big, you can’t lead past major stop locations or the ride will break up. After that we skirted downtown before heading over 13th to the Kaiser parking garage. This was the first visit here in a long while although the lights were out up top which made it a little hard to find your posse. We resumed back downtown through the Daily Camera garage and to the St. Julian cement area thingy that needs a name really badly. This was pretty much the end of the ride at which time everyone dispursed on their own agendas.

Overall I really liked the route last night. We hit a lot of our classic hot spots, we didn’t ride out in the middle of nowhere, I didn’t notice any traffic jams, and it appears we stayed out of trouble even with numbers somewhere in the 500s at the start.

I really disagree about stopping at Ebin G. Fine, the ride stops too much the way it is. If the ride leaders don’t stop then the rest of the ride should follow. The only way people will stop is if others do so. That would mean that it would be old timers since newbies wouldn’t know it was a major stop location. Plus we have gotten into trouble at the park so I wouldn’t recomend it as a stopping point with the numbers we had. Also, splitting up a group of 500 probably isn’t such a bad thing.

    My two cents.

Right or wrong, it has been shown that a group will stop. It also happened earlier this year when we were led past the Justice Center. I was at the front of the ride and we rode past, but somewhere mid-pack people went in to cirlce, and the group was split. My point is, if the leaders don’t want to stop at Ebin G Fine, N Boulder, Library, etc, then they need to plan to not lead past those locations.

Uh oh Hot Robbie has some competition! Looks like you are going to have to step up your game to get in the prestigious Cover Shot . . .

Ebin G. Fine is a good place to stop and we should have stopped there. The normal ride leaders were swallowed up by the masses and others started to drive the train. Coming off of the hill we did need a good spot to re-group and then take off. In the end we ended up back together again which was nice. Ebin G is fine to stop at so long as it’s not too late and we don’t linger too long. But it is nice to take a quick break after a long haul or hill climbing. I do understand that the riders tend to linger way too long and hopefully the new music machine will help make this easier to transition.
