On the 37th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s historic moon landing, riders on the Cruiser Ride celebrated a giant leap forward for cruiserdom. Public Cruiser Machine V2.0 was unveiled at Scott Carpenter Park amidst a veil of CO2, and it was immediately time to blast off into the dance party. Aliens and Astronauts was the official theme and the masses approved with generous helpings of body paint, tin foil, and recycled electronic componentry.

The ride headed out east on the bike paths which was a wise choice for full testing of the music machine’s volume capabilities without disturbing homeowners. Read more

Boulder Short Track - 20 minutes of pain. I’m glad I don’t do this any more. Jimmy Archer shows swallowing flies provides extra energy for the final kick.

At this weeks edition of the cruise I put aside my fears of trashing my camera gear and brought out the 20D to have some photo fun. It was a hot day and there were plenty of short shorts on the ride to celebrate Mo’s last cruise before his move to North Carolina. Unfortunately it was only the guys that interpreted the ‘Carolina On My Mind’ Theme to mean ‘Daisy Dukes.’ Personally I sported my anti-theme costume in protest of the inability of the cruiser email list to decide on themes, but this should hopefully be smoothed out from now on with the advent of a poll to decide these critical decisions democratically. Right Chris?

Illuminated CruiserThe ride started out on a great new route that used uncrowded city streets rather than the bike path which should quiet the nay-sayers who dislike leaving on the bike path every time. We headed straight up the hill to the Buffalo, which is always a favorite location to regroup and circle. After that we rode west Read more

Moonset over Flatirons

Photo: Steve Z

On Weds morning I was riding my bike down to Amante at dawn to watch the Tour. The sunrise illumated the Flatirons with rust overtones and the full moon was stunning. It was one of those many ‘Damn, I wish I had my camera’ moments. Today (Thurs) I tried to recreate the scene, but for some reason the moon just wasn’t as big! Trust me Weds was better!

Can you ride a backwards no hands wheelie?

This girl can.

The highlight of the ride last night was greatly decreased turnout after last weeks monster traffic jam. An afternoon shower cooled the air off nicely and helped to reduce the crowds at the Scott Carpenter starting location. Additionally, the Wahoo’s crew decared a ‘mutany ride’, where they went off on their own little cruise to try to seek out that small group vibe. I went by both start locations and both groups began on a relatively subdued vibe. I suspect this was mostly because everyone hadn’t had a full week to recharge their party mojo after the 4th only 2 days prior. Music man Ryan was out of town and the new Cruiser Tunes still isn’t operational, so both groups were without major tuneage. The main group had about 350 while the photos of the Wahooligans shows around 30. I heard some various drama related comments about this ride Read more

Rank IncompetenceRank Incompetence

Words & Photos: Steve Z

I went to a slideshow a few weeks ago at the Boulder Co-op. At the show, someone was giving away these blue ribbon magnets that said “Rank Incompetence”. I suppose that the message is supposed to be Anti-W, however there is no way I’d ever put any magnet ribbon on any kind on my car, for fear that someone at a distance would not read it and just insinuate my message. There weren’t too many takers for these guys so on the way out I grabbed the whole stack and started sticking them on cars downtown and taking pictures. I was laughing to think of what the varied reactions of these people will be when they figure out that they were ‘tagged’. For the last one I found this VW bus, perfect! I’ll have to go back and see if they are still there! Unfortunately I couldn’t find any cars with the usual ribbons, I wanted to do a little switcheroo, but that’s Boulder for you.
